Q: Backup & Restore to new iPad

I've purchased a new iPad Pro for an employee.  I'm attempting to do a backup & restore to get everything off his old iPad2 and onto the new one.  I have his appleID/password and a separate account on my computer for his info to sync.  (cc on the account is in company name.)

My problem is that every time I attempt to do an encrypted local backup (so his passwords, etc follow) my iTunes completely freezes.  Simply says "Backing up "Gerry's ipad"..." and sits there for hours.  If I try to click anywhere else in iTunes, nothing happens.  There is movement on the screen, the rotating arrows in the upper left are rotating and the blue bar with the dark/light values is moving.  I don't get anythign indicating what step or how much is left.

If I attempt to close iTunes, nothing happens.  (whether I click the x or if i go to the task bar and click close window.  The only way to remove it from my screen is to go to the task manager and end task.

I've had his ipad for a full day now and he really needs it for work (payroll reporting, viewing drawings, etc (construction company)).

I've got iTunes 12.4.3.1 and cannot update it any further.  I'm running Windows 10 (which I'm not happy about, but that is reality.)

Please help.

    Hello there, TNA-rbsi!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are having an issue completing the backup of your iPad. I know how important it is to be sure your backup is completed as well. Check out this article that has steps for If your iTunes backup couldn‘t be completed or you can‘t restore from a backup

Another option if those steps don;t work would be to Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows 7 and later. Just be sure when you remove the Apple software, you follow the order in the article:

Remove iTunes and its related components from the Control Panel

Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:

    1. iTunes
    2. Apple Software Update
    3. Apple Mobile Device Support
    4. Bonjour
    5. Apple Application Support 32-bit
    6. Apple Application Support 64-bit

On some systems, iTunes might install two versions of Apple Application Support. This is expected. If both are present, be sure to uninstall both versions.

Don't uninstall these components in a different order, or only uninstall some of them. Doing so might have unintended effects. After you uninstall a component, you might be prompted to restart your computer. Wait to restart your computer until you're finished removing all of the components.

    Cheers!
