Q: Yesterday my AirPort express (2nd gen) wanted to update to be r 7.6.7. After that the speed of the device dropped significantly. Anybody has experienced similar behaviour? Tips to fix problem are welcomed.

YEsterday my Airport Express wanted to get updated, which I did. (from 7.4.6 to 7.6.7).

after that it started behaving erratically with large drops in speed. Anybody has similar experiences? How can I fix it without having to buy a new one.

    Shutdown your Mac. Power down your Airport Express, and shutoff your ISP modem. Wait 10 minutes, and then power on the ISP modem, and then the Airport Express. Power on your Mac. Reassess your performance issues.

     

    Run this, or this in that preferential order to assess your latency, download, and upload bandwidth. You may need to change the server for either.

     

    I updated to 7.6.7 on my 4th gen Airport Extreme and have not observed any degradation in performance from before the update.

     

    Sometimes, the ISP gets their DNS in a tangle, and it makes the network nearly catatonic until they fix things. Nothing to be done at the user level in that case. Have you called your ISP and asked them to check their equipment at your location?
