Q: Cropped photo not staying cropped.

I cropped a picture in Photos (1.5). When I try to use the cropped picture in iMovie, the original (uncropped picture) shows up. Also, if I quit Photos and reopen it, the uncropped version shows up. Any thoughts on getting the cropped photo to stick.

Running OS X 10.11.6 on an iMac (late 2015).

iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

How are you cropping the photo?  Are you using the Crop tool in edit mode or an photo editing extension?

Does the cropping show, if you export the photo from Photos to your desktop using "File > Export > Export ... photos".

Is the problem the same for all photos or only one specific photo?

I used the crop tool in edit mode.

"Does the cropping show, if you export the photo from Photos to your desktop using "File > Export > Export ... photos"." I get the original photo, not the cropped photo is if I export it.

It happens for at least 3 pictures.

    Thanks for the reply.

I would test with a new photos library, if cropping is working there. Perhaps your Photos Library needs repairing.

If cropping is working in a new library, repair your current Photos Library:  https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/index.html#/pht6be18f93

    Repair your library

If you experience problems with photos in a library, Photos can try to repair it. If problems persist, you can also restore your library from a Time Machine backup.

Important: You should back up your photo library before repairing your library.

    • If Photos is open, choose Photos > Quit Photos.
    • Press Option-Command and double-click the Photos icon in the Applications folder (or click the Photos icon in the Dock). The Repair Library window opens.
    • Click Repair to rebuild your photo library.

To create a new library for testing quit Photos, then launch it again while holding down the options key. seelct to create a new library. See: https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/index.html#/pht6d60b524

I think I figure out the problem. I was trying to edit pdf files. When I changed to a jpeg file, I could crop it just fine.

I didn't even know that Photos could import pdf files, but I managed to get a couple imported.

    Thanks for you help.
