Contact LaCie tech support for assistance.

You might want to check with LaCie support. Whatever you try, I would make sure that I have another good backup. For example, removing other mfr's drives included backup software requires you to erase the drive. So, that may be why you are unable to uninstall it (but that is just a guess).

FWIW, no external hard drive needs any kind of software to be used as a backup drive - the only thing it needs is to be formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using the GUID partition scheme (in order to be bootable).

Thank you, babowa.  I am in touch with LaCie support, though I'm less and less optimistic with each email.

I am not knowledgeable at all in these matters.  When I bought the LaCie 2TB USB 3.0 Porsche Design P'9233 Desktop Hard Drive in 2103 I simply plugged it in and turned it on and used the LaCie Desktop Manager to run it.  When the LDM stopped working a couple of years ago I just added and deleted files manually.  I'm gradually losing features and am concerned about losing access to data (I have backed up to CDs) and so was attempting to update firmware (have updated driver) when I ran into this issue.

I'm assuming it's way too late in the game to 'format Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using the GUID partition scheme (in order to be bootable)' as you suggest.  I have a slow USB connection to a 2009 iMac (El Capitan OS) so backing up this drive in total would be a nightmare timewise.  Always thought I'd 'catch up' with a newer Mac somewhere down the road but haven't needed one so far.
