Q: Can't set correct time

i live in California but was recently in the UK. When I was there, my time adjusted automatically based on my location. When I returned, it didn't do that but remained in UK time. So I go into date & time and select my current location and set to set time automatically. But it keeps it 8 hrs ahead. So I manually change it. And I see that whatever I set the time for, it offsets the device time by 8 hrs. So in order to get local Cali time, I have to set it 8 hrs behind.

Amy idea what's going on?

Hi. Check your timezone setting under Settings > General > Date & Time.

If I turn on Set Automatically, it will identify my time zone as Cupertino, which is correct. But then it offsets the correct time ahead 8 hours. So right now it's 12:30pm here. When I turn on Set Automatically with Cupertino as the time zone, it sets the time for 8:30pm.

The only way to get it to say 12:30pm it to turn off Set Automatically, and then manually set the time for 4:30am. Then the unexplainable 8-hr offset shows me the correct time.

It's as if you're displaying UK time while your TZ is Calif. Is it possible that your Region is set to UK? Also, are you doing anything that would confuse Location services? Finally, have you tried restarting, hold Sleep and Home buttons until the Apple appears? That might shake the cobwebs out.

If you do a Google search, it shows your estimated location at the end of the first page of results. That would reveal your Location.

Restarting did it! Now it works as expected. Thanks!

Must be that special relativity confused things when you moved it so far from home
