Q: Use MacBook Pro remote with iMac through external TV
Guten Morgen! I have an Apple remote (the one meant for Front Row on the MacBook Pro 1,1) and was wondering if there was a way I could use it with my iMac 14,2. Here's the catch: as I don't have room for two displays I have it set to the side longwise like a very thin tower, and connected it to my TV, which I also use for my game consoles, and gaming PC. It would be nice if I could remotely control my iMac the way I do with my PS3, gaming PC, even my hacked PS2 has a reset and power off function built into the menu. (Yes I know I could use a wireless keyboard, however I far prefer the classic PowerMac G4's keyboard, its sturdy, it has USB ports, albeit 1.1, directly on it and the springy-ness of the keys is great for coding. Plus the only wireless keyboard I have that isn't broken is an old Logitech one meant for Windows, so keyboard shortcuts don't work properly and due to its age its range is not very good and usually struggles to connect from the other end of a 5 meter long room. ). So back to the point, would it hypothetically be possible to use said Apple remote with the iMac via the IR receiver on the TV? (It is currently hooked up with a DVI-D-to-VGA converter, however the graphics card I installed also has an HDMI port if that makes a difference. ... What, I like to mod and bodge my stuff ).
iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), 27" (Model 14,2)

no IR commands received by tv's are not transferred back over dvi or vga because those std's are output only, fire and forget if one will
