Q: iTunes hangs when processing downloaded song

I'm currently in the process of downloading my matched library to a new mac. Simultaneous downloads is enabled. The songs download quickly but each time when the first 3 queued songs get to the point of processing they hang indefinitely without completing. E.g. in the downloads list the song will show with the little download clock as almost complete, it will show as 6.9MB of 6.9MB downloaded but will just stay like that. No other songs will commence downloading until one of the 3 hung downloads completes. If I click on the pause icon next to it the processing will complete and other songs will begin to download again. All this means I can't download the songs unattended.

Any clues most appreciated.

    Hi Johnnyboy,

I understand that you're running into some issues re-downloading your matched music to your new computer. It sounds like you've found a method to work around the songs that are hanging, but I know it would be ideal to leave your Mac alone while this entire process completes.

As a first step, I'd recommend restarting your Mac before trying again. If the issue persists, please check for any available software updates using the steps described here:

Update the software on your Mac - Apple Support

If you are still noticing this problem after trying these two steps, it may be a good idea to try starting up your Mac using safe mode to see if the problem continues. This website gives an overview of how to start up your Mac using safe mode:

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support

    Cheers!

Thanks Tim. I tried this in Safe Mode and there was no difference.

    Hi,

This is common problem that occurs when you try to download music from the cloud. For whatever reason some downloads stall or are extremely slow to download. I find it difficult to understand why especially when I have an excellent download speed. I have found that I need to keep a close watch and pause downloads on problem tracks. This allows others tracks  start downloading - usually the problem tracks are downloaded OK after restarting the process after the others have been downloaded.

A better option would be to back up your complete iTunes folder to an external HD then copy entire library to new computer. How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support
