Q: Any idea how to create this animation in Apple Motion?

I'm not looking to recreate this, just the kind of radio wave effect where the circles animate outwards whilst fading in at the center and our at the periphery.

I'm sure it can be done with a simple circle and the replicator but i just can't work it out, any advice appreciated.

    how's that:

    antenna mov.gif

apply gradient generator to a new group

set gradient to radial, center it

add filter Gradient Colorizer, set Repeat to 10

adjust gradient to create 'sharp' circles

apply Ramp behavior to off-set, start 720°, end 0° ...

Another way to go is to start with a circle, radius about 1000-1100 or so; Brush Type: Airbrush.

    Set the Brush Profile to

    Left Stop, Opacity: 20%

Right Stop, Opacity: 0% and move the right stop to about the 50% position

Set the Brush width to about 270 or so (+/-)

With the circle shape selected, type 'E' to create an emitter.

    Set 3D.

Set the Emission Angle, Longitude, and Range to 0.

Set the Birth Rate to 2.

    Set Life to 2.5

    Set Opacity Over Life to:

    Left Stop: 0%

    Right Stop: 0%

add a Mid Stop at location 10% and set its opacity to about 10%.

    Screen Shot 2016-08-06 at 12.34.05 PM.png

Add Behaviors > Particles > Scale over Life (the default settings are perfect — 0-100%, Natural Scale)

You can use the Emitter Scale parameter to tighen it up a little.

    Tweak other settings to taste...

hmm, I think, i like yours better than mine!

Yours is more … 'radiation', mine has some … different resemblance:

I did a similar effect all the way back to Adobe LiveMotion days to make a "flash" banner for a client. The key logo part (KKAY) of the animation I redid in Motion (4) back in 2010 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWt7Qodz-xE. You would not believe how I did it back then... LOL. One circle— animate scale and opacity. Then duplicated circle object (many times) and moved them down the timeline to offset the animation start. Emitters are so much easier (Really miss the idustrial revolution globe generator—it was a good one).

    speaking of animated globes:

any clue where iMovie hides its globe animations? (used for that map-animations)

Would be handy for a plugin I have in mind....

FCPX should be running. When this goes through, you will automatically get a new Library called iMovie Library with a project named whatever you named the iMovie project.

In iMovie, drag the globe template to the storyline (by itself). Go to File > Send Movie to Final Cut Pro.

In FCPX, double click on the project that appears in the event to load it into the storyline. What you get is the generator in the storyline and you have access to all the original parameters.

The globes, maps and other backgrounds work but that's about it. Some of the other generators might work, but not all of them will.

For each new map you send across, you'll get another Event in the Library.

You can save the generator as a compound clip, but you cannot break apart the compound that is made. You still can go down into the compound to access the parameter settings.

works like charme, but I have to rephrase my question:

Like you know the way, where some FCPX specific fonts are stored, I would be interested where such graphics as the maps and globes of iMovie are hidden...

The revolving globes would be nice to have - without cities&routes...

Unfortunately, the globe generators are Quartz animations. If you're comfortable with Quartz Composer, then perhaps you can make use of the projects.

Here's how you get to them: (assuming we're talking about iMovie 10.x)

In the Finder > Go menu > Go To Folder...

copy and paste this path: (no spaces!)

        /Applications/iMovie.app/Contents/Frameworks

The Frameworks folder will then have its contents listed.

    Go to Flexo.framework / Versions / A / Resources / Compositions /

and look for the .qtz files (and the associated jpg and png files for the images used).

Good luck with this! Let me know how it goes.

PS - it would be easier to build "globe" models with mObject and NASA world images (http://visibleearth.nasa.gov/) which is what I did in the example above and here's one with clouds added:

or even using the Sphere filter on the NASA images:

Thanks, fox, for directing me, found the parts..

And no, had several attemps teaching me Quartz - my brain is too small for that

using the ol' 3D-group-Sphere-filter-trick comes out nicely and good enough for my needs:

Awesome, thanks everyone for the suggestions, it's easy when you know how!! I used this option for the final result, but changed my circle emitter to more of an arc by adjusting the first and last point offsets to give more of a wifi-esque icon look. thanks again everyone.
