Q: Safari causes massive power drain
I have a Macbook air running el capitan 10.11.6 and Safari 9.1.2 which seems to be part of the 10.11.6 update. Whenever I open Safari the fan turns on and runs contiuously and the battery quickly drains. Firefox doesn't have this problem. All preferences look normal. How can I fix this?

Thanks everyone for the help. Here is the fix. Safari apparently does not close all sessions when you click "quit Safari". They also didn't die when the computer was restarted. In my case there were many open instances and these did not show up under tabs because they were separate sessions. F3 would have shown them but I never tried that. Also two finger click on the Safari icon in the dock would have shown them but I didn't try that either. Whenever I reopened Safari these 20-some sessionss would start running in the background and start consuming power.
Went to the apple store. First tech ran scans and diags and it appeared everything was okay. Went home and problem resumed. Went to different Apple store yesterday and the tech found the problem in a few minutes. Deleted all open Safari windows and all is well.
