Q: clients loose connection to profilemanager

Hello there,

I am running a MacMini with OS X 10.11.6 and Server 5.1.7.

My problem is that I connect several devices to the server and freshly connected, all goes well - I can change settings via profile manager.

But when I didn´t do anything for some time (even for 2,3 days), the problem starts: I change settings for device groups or even on single devices, the tasks get shown as "Active Tasks", but the status keeps on "pending". It seems like the profile manager cannot get any more a connection to the devices.

Strangely, I tried today to push a book (epub) on some devices, but all failed - except for my iPad. It took some minutes, but then, the book appeared correctly on the iPad.

Biggest problem I have is on a MacBook. Synchronisation fails because of some (probably wrong) settings for home dir, but I cannot correct the settings, because I do not get a working synchronization of the profile manager tasks.

It would really be nice if somebody could help me to fix this - also via pm. I am really looking forward to finally get this working and I am seeking desperately help...

Greets

Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10), with server 10.10

I've not come across any authoritative description of exactly how profile manager schedules what gets pushed. Based on my own observation, if clients are offline/asleep for a significant period PM seems to give up on them until they are rebooted or someone (it may need to be an admin but I'm not sure) logs in and out again.

Cancelling the push, rebooting the client, then redoing the push usually fires up everything for me.

    YMMV.

    C.

The latest update completely broke Open Directory on my Server.  Without it, Profile Manager is non-functional.  Check whether OD is working for you.  I suspect there's a bug in this latest release.

    Hi,

concerning the last update: I even had problems before the last update - clients did not connect at all before installing the update. After, I could sync the clients for about 1 day. After that, sync was broken again.

What concerns the sync of clients after having logged in with a special user: I cannot say that this solves the problem. Also, there a reboot does not help: After reboot, the profile manager shows that the task is done, but when I check the settings locally on a client, nothing has changed.

This is really annoying - it seems that the function doesn´t work at all for me. I would really be paying for support, if one gets this working for me. To me, I´d really like to get this working.

I solved the problem by rebooting the server. But still I wonder what is the cause... Is there any possible hint from anyone to this? Perhaps a service that dind't work correctly (although I didn't see any log messages that would say something like this)?
