Q: iPhone wont connect to internet

Two suggestions:

1. Reset the iPhone.  Hold the on/off and home buttons together for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
2. Is your storage full?  Check Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage > Manage Storage (under Storage).  Do you have absolutely no less than 10% of the iPhone's total storage free?  You should.

Verify your wifi is broadcasting internet with a different device.

Also make sure you are not too far from the router when trying to use the wifi.

Does this problem also continue when using cellular data?

It seems to me that you are only able to see emails that are already on your phone and play games that don't require a consistent internet connection. I may be wrong, but it would be a good idea to verify the internet before doing anything higher effort.
