Q: iCloud email as apple ID

am i right in saying that you cannot have your iCloud email address as your apple ID? I currently have an outlook email as my apple ID and wanted to swap it over to a iCloud address alias i have - it can't be done?

Thx jimmy, looks like this is an ongoing issue that's been going on for ages.
Oh well then I'll just keep my outlook address as my Apple ID - the two firms seem to be friends these days anyway .
