Q: My Apple Smart Keyboard (Azerty) switches to Qwerty when I select the English UK keyboard

I purchased a iPad Pro 9'7 and up to yesterday, I did not use the Apple Smart Keyboard, only the native Apple keyboard in IOS. I am leaving in a French speaking country, so I am used to Azerty Keyboard, and the Azerty Smart Keyboard was not available yet, till recently. I have just purchased my Azerty Smart Keyboard, which is now available. I am immediately running into keyboard configuration issues.

With the native IOS software keyboard I installed 3 keyboards: French, Dutch and UK English, and I set up Dutch and UK English to azerty. It worked fine. I was able to benefit from the spell checker in every language, while keeping the AZERTY keyboard layout. I am constantly switching between these languages, so it was important for me to be able to switch between languages, while keeping the Azerty layout

On my new Azerty Smart Keyboard, I easily can switch between languages using the "globe" key on the left side of the keyboard, but as soon as I switch to UK English or Dutch, the keyboard automatically switches to Qwerty. I checked that my iPad settings did not change: Dutch and UK English are still set to Azerty. So I get confused now.

Of course, I could stick to the french language as a setting for my keyboard, the smart keyboard would retain its built in azerty layout, but I would miss the spell checking option.

Any hint, solution or work around ?

You just need to set French as the Hardware Keyboard for English and Dutch in Settings > General > Keyboard > Hardware Keyboards.

This is just part of the solution. The problem is that you have to switch off auto correct as well and this is not what is the idea... Can't Apple make a complete solution...

You can set in the settings English with azerty keyboard... but my Logitech smart AZERTY keyboard keeps on typing as if it is a QWERTY one...

You are not setting the right thing.  You must set the HARDWARE keyboard for English to FRENCH.  Then your hardware will type azerty and your autocorrect will be for English.
