Q: all mail has disappeared from my ipod

have a 3 year old ipad that the emails have just disappeared.  I know little to nothing about  how to operated it.  Its simplicity is why I love it.  But now I cannot get my emails. the icon appears but no emails   are there.  I did check  my  settings  and can find no issues.  I have not changed anything.  Can anyone offer a suggestion? thank you

    Who is the mail provider?

What type of account? POP3 or IMAP>Exchange?

Do you have the account set up on another device?

Can you access the mail account via a web browser?

What do yo mean by "the icon appears but no emails "

    Try:

    Try:

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

    - Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
