Q: Is this a true security concern, or just to prevent jailbreak?

How would a rogue application come to execute code as root?

iPhone 3GS, iOS 5, Music app

Don't know what you are really asking. Don't jailbrake it and it should not.

    Hi kenb0t,

If I am understanding you correctly, it seems like to me that you'd like to know how rouge applications, or malware could get on your iPhone. The iPhone uses trusted boot, sandboxing, and kernel address space layout randomization. Apple also provides developers tools like top-notch APIs, encryption, and app transport security. These are just some examples of how your iPhone can protect itself from malware.

(If you were wondering where I got this information from, you can find it a little in the middle of the page if you keep scrolling down: http://www.apple.com/iphone/why-theres-iphone/)

I know that keeping my electronic devices safe from malware is very important to me, so I can understand why you would be wondering about how your iPhone protects itself from malware. If you want to keep your device safe keep your iOS device updated, and be weary of the websites you visit, and don't install anything outside from the App store on your iPhone.

I hope I understood your question correctly. And if I did, I hope it helps you. If I didn't help, hopefully you learned something new. And of course don't hesitate to post back on here if you need any more help!
