Jul 9, 2016 6:22 PM in response to CoyoteTimby cheeky-monkey,Actually, I don't quite know how to say this, but the problem has suddenly disappeared on it's own. So weird. I haven't done anything at all. Haven't updated any software or anything. As quietly as the problem arrived....it left! I have no explanation. Perhaps some corrupted file or something got deleted or overwritten or something. Because I stuff doesn't just cure itself. So, I'm hoping that this doesn't come back! I've been not freezing up for a couple of weeks now. I hope everyone else gets their problem resolved too. Sorry I can't tell you all what went right.

Jul 11, 2016 6:10 PM in response to zcolbsterby Glenn Freeman,With 10.11.5 I get a freeze EVERY time my MacBook Pro (mid 2009) goes to sleep (closing the lid, for instance).
This NEVER occurred before 10.11.5Something is wrong.

Jul 25, 2016 10:19 AM in response to zcolbsterby cheeky-monkey,To everyone: If you are still having trouble with OS 10.11.5 freezing up when put to sleep, they just came out with an update to 10.11.6. I suggest everyone update.

Jul 25, 2016 12:08 PM in response to cheeky-monkeyby The Real Torian,Do you know if this update addresses this problem? I have been reading that this update is freezing up MBP's and I am a little nervous about updating it.

Jul 25, 2016 1:04 PM in response to cheeky-monkeyby Oso Grande,I'm at least semi-convinced this issue was affecting my MacBook Pro through VMware. I contacted VMware, they appear "unaware" of any ongoing or existing issues. However, removing Fusion 8 Pro fixed the problem, at least temporarily. I finally did a complete wipe/format/reinstall and the issue did not reappear until I reinstalled Fusion 8. Reset NVRAM and SMC, issue returned after launching Fusion 8, especially with Unity mode (Coherence for Parallels users). I submitted a bug report to VMware but who knows if/when/how they'll fix it.**
Removing Fusion 8 alone did not resolve the issue, it required a reset of the SMC before the issue went away. You may want to reset the NVRAM, too, for good measure.
I've done a second wipe/format/reinstall of OS X with 10.11.6 and the issue has not reappeared. I'm not willing to chance testing it with Fusion again, though.
**My experience with VMware's technical support for Fusion was nothing short of abysmal. Should you contact them, I wish you the best of luck.

Jul 25, 2016 1:08 PM in response to zcolbsterby Glenn Freeman,I've been working with Apple but still have the problem, even after the most recent update. It freezes after sleep. I've been disabling sleep, which is not a great solution.

Jul 25, 2016 1:26 PM in response to zcolbsterby cipri7,This affected my early 2011 MBP every time it slept or I shut the lid, but after the 10.11.6 update (day it was released) the problem stopped for one week, then returned for one day, but has not happened again since. It seems whatever was going on is something in the OS. Hopefully further debugging will resolve the issue for good.

Jul 25, 2016 1:34 PM in response to cipri7by cheeky-monkey,I had similar issues the whole time I was in the 10.11.5 update. Now that I have updated to 10.11.6 I seem to be OK. Going in and out of sleep fine (fingers crossed). I hope it's all over now. I'll let you know if it isn't.

Jul 29, 2016 12:34 AM in response to iashtonby iashton,Upgraded to 10.11.6 on 29/7/16.
Set Energy Saver back to 30 mins ( It was set to NEVER since May to avoid the forced reboot every morning).
System woke up from sleep today without a problem.

Aug 8, 2016 8:47 PM in response to zcolbsterby KySneed,10.11.6 El Capitan Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014 iMac here, same problem, frozen out of sleep, keyboard and mouse don't work.

Aug 9, 2016 2:30 AM in response to iashtonby iashton,However 3 days later the iMac once again failed to wake up. Slightly different in that there was nothing visible on the screen although the power light had changed from amber to blue which indicates it had received a signal on the HDMI.
Back to screen saver only and scratching of head.

Aug 9, 2016 5:45 AM in response to KySneedby jeffreynothing43,So...I’ve gone through 3 Mac Mini’s in the past month in a half. First one had the regular stock hard drive…the sleep bug never happened. I gave up on that machine before my 14 days because it wasn’t powerful enough. So then I got one with a Fusion drive. The bug kicked in. I read on here that it might be related to the Fusion drive so I returned that one and got a Mac with a Flash drive. I have only had it one night but I checked this morning before I left from work, and BAM! It wasn’t frozen. I’ll post more after a few days. I think it is the Fusion drive if I had to guess.

Aug 11, 2016 12:26 AM in response to zcolbsterby didgex,I'm afraid I have to confirm that 10.11.6 does NOT solve the problem for me.
iMac (27-inch, late 2012, no fusion drive) : system still does not wake up after sleep. The problem started after the 10.11.5 upgrade.
