Q: cannot change subtitles from Spanish to English

i have always had my subtitles in English...without changing anything, they are now in Spanish...I have gone through all the steps (rebooting, etc) and even though i select English as the preferred language for the subtitles, they are in Spanish...

I assume you mean at settings >audio & video > subtitle language

Is this for all subtitles or just one, does this happen in iTunes movies, Netflix movies or where.

here's the weird thing...the subtitles are Spanish only on the 6th episode of Difficult People on Hulu...everything else on Netflix, Amazon and Hulu is in English...

Now that's more specific. If you have an older ATV, you can hold the middle remote button to get the menu of options. You should the  be able to select the subtitle language. It may be that this episode doesn't have English subtitles, or that it's not the default. For ATV 4, you get the menu by swiping down from the top on the remote.

So it's just one title then, have you checked that it actually has an English subtitle or whether they are somehow mixed up, try swiping down on the trackpad while playing the movie and trying different subtitle languages.
