Car play is a piece of software on later iPhones

It needs the motor manufacturer to have implemented the vehicle end into the media software

and it is not added retrospectively

There is no Carplay on  JLR vehicles and certainly not in 2011 .Car play did not exist then

Contact JLR and enquire when they  plan to to implement ,if ever.

My solution to error that "device not compatible" when trying to use iPhone 6 with CarPlay in 2016 Honda Accord EX:

Go to iPhone Settings -> General -> Restrictions.  Find "CarPlay" and turn off restriction.

Why is it not possible to add the CarPlay software retrospectively?  If it is only software and you have a compatible iPhone, it should seem easy enough for the auto manufacturers to add this, for a price, of course, and I would be willing to pay this price.  My vehicle as well as my wife's have Bose systems (both are GM vehicles) and I do not have gapless playback when I play opera selections which have continuous music but separate tracks without an irritating pause between each track.  I did not have this problem when I auditioned CarPlay on a new vehicle at my GM dealership.  In fact it was very enjoyable to have continuous music instead of the irritating pause.  Buying a new car is not the solution, but backward compatibility through software at a cost would be.  I do have a new iPhone SE that is obviously compatible with CarPlay.  I have not had this problem with cars that do not have Bose sound systems interestingly enough.  I can just use my iPod touch and have gapless playback but that involves buying a different vehicle as well.
