    If your payment method changed or needed updating, it needs to be re-verified. Your account needs to have payment method that is in good standing, regardless of the cost, even if it's free.

    Thanks for the reply! I'm using a debit card that's got no funds at this time, so I find this a little bit annoying that I have to wait till pay day to update basic apps like Whatsapp or google maps. I think it'd be good to be able to select none as payment method

    Have you tried logging into your account (not when trying to download something) to see if you get the 'none' option : Change or remove your Apple ID payment information - Apple Support ? If you don't then do any of the scenarios on the 'if you don't see None or can't select it' link on that page apply ?

    Wow! Thank you so much KP. I stared digging as you suggested and cane to realize a purchase I made last week in the App Store wasn't charged to my debit card by the time it had enough balance. I'd never figured out if it wasn't for your reply       . Luckily I've got apple and bank notifications turned on on my mobile, it makes it easier to track my spending. Cheers!
