Q: I keep getting error msg "The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -54.)when trying to open videos in iPhoto

I have been working with Apple support for days and am still unable to open videos in my iPhoto program.  When I check them in package contents in the library, they play just fine.  With "Apple Support", I have down loaded several iPhoto libraries onto an external drive and tried to open them, but I still get the same error message.  I have tried repairing iPhoto up to the medium level of repair.  I had upgraded to el capitan on my 2009 macbook pro and am unsure as to if this upgrade coincided with my video problem.  Trying to free up HD space, I had deleted a lot of videos by deleting them in the iPhoto program (not out of finder).  Although I have not switched fully to photos yet, I did try playing them in photos, too.  When they didn't play, I dragged some of them from the iPhoto originals in finder into the photos program.  Those photos then worked in the Photos program.  I am very confused as to what to do next.  I do prefer to remain in the iPhotos program for now because it is so much easier for me to access my events and organize them.  Any suggestions?I have backed up both libraries and want to delete the photos library to make more room on my hard drive.  I was about to do that when I discovered this video problem.  Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.  There is a Terry Devlin that seems to know a whole lot.  Are you out there?????

    As a test select a number of videos that are giving you problems and see if you can export them out of your iPhoto library as originals.

    Next launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import those videos to the new library and see if they will play.

    Since iPhoto is on its deathbed and the videos work in a Photos album I suggest you try the following;

    1 - make a duplicate copy of your current iPhoto Library.

    2 - drag your iPhoto library onto the Photos icon in the Dock to migrate the library to a Photos library.

    3 - check the videos to make sure they work. If they do continue using Photos.
