    Hello 3stash3,

Thanks for asking your question here in the Apple Support Communities. Duplicates in iTunes can be confusing, but there are a few reasons this happens, and I will be happy to provide what you can do to resolve this.

The fist thing we want to do is to make a backup of all your music. All iTunes purchased music can always be re-downloaded as long as they are still available for sale in the iTunes Store. Any personally imported CD's or music from other sources you will need to make a backup of using this help article. Manage and back up your iTunes media library.

Once your music is backed up, I also recommend making a backup of your Mac. This article will help you make a backup of your Mac to an external hard drive: Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac.

Once you have your computer and music backed up, you can try sorting out why you are experiencing duplicate songs. We see this problem when customers utilize two forms of any of these iCloud sync services for iTunes or music syncing. iTunes Match, Home Sharing, iCloud Music Library. Any combination of two of these services working together would give you duplicates in your library. If you use more than one of those together, disable one of them, and the duplicate songs shared by two services should be resolved. You can check if Home Sharing is configured properly on your computer, and Apple TV using this help article: Apple TV manual Home Sharing. It may be best to disable Home Sharing on the computer and Apple TV. If all music ends up missing, you can re-set it all up. If it removes only the doubles, maybe you prefer to use the other service such as iCloud Music Library, and leave Home Sharing off now.

Please check these help articles as well to help you understand the settings for Apple TV, Home Sharing, and iCloud Music Library.

    1. Use Home Sharing to share iTunes content with other devices.

    2. Apple TV manual iCloud Music Library

If you are able to confirm that two sync services are not working together causing the duplicates and still have issues, you can manually delete the duplicates using this help article: Find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library.

Thanks again and have a great rest of your day.

Try signing out of the iTunes Store. This should eliminate all of the cloud duplicates since they are connected to the account. Close iTunes, reopen, try signing into the store again. Hopefully this time around it will correctly match up your past purchases with what is already in the library and not show any duplicates.
