Q: Updating without a sim card installed

My iPhone 5c has a sim card in it, but it says," No Sim" and the sim card isn't activated anymore. My question is, can I update the IOS firmware still?

iPhone 5c, iOS 9.3.4

You cannot activate an iPhone without a sim. The sim does not have to be

associated with an active cellular account; however, if the iPhone is locked to a

particular wireless provider, the sim must be from that wireless provider. Same for

updating iOS version or restoring the iPhone. You need a sim.

If you do not have one, orrow an appropriate sim from a friend/relative/co-worker for

the few minutes needed to complete the update.
