Q: 9.3.4 disabled wifi on an Ipad, but it hooks up to the router. Just won't download at all

Ipad was working fine, but I updated to 9.3.4. Now wireless doesn't work. Shows connected to the router, but nothing happens but an error saying can't connect to server, when trying to access internet or mail. Also VPN toggle keeps flashing gray to green and then back, but we've never set up a VPN. Don't know if it's connected. Have tried

1. disconnecting/ reconnecting to 2 routers that work fine for other devices

2. reset wireless via settings> general> reset> Reset network settings , and then hooking up again

3. airplane mode on, wait a couple minutes, then off again

Throughout, the router will connect any time we put in the password, but there is no transfer of data. 3 other devices work fine with the router. Don't know where to go from here, or if backing out from the upgrade is possible. Anyone else with this issue? A search didn't turn up the same problem.

Thanks

iPad Air, iOS 9.3.4

Whatever is causing the problem it isn't specifically 9.3.4, which just patches a security vulnerability. Have you tried rebooting the routers?

One of the 2 we tried was available tobus, and we did restart it. 3 other

devices use them both, and the ipad shows it connects, but nothing after

that.  I worked great prior to the update.

one of the routers was accessible, and we restarted it. 3 other devices use both routers fine. The ipad shows when it connects to the router, but nothing happens after that. It worked great before the update.

What iOS version did you have before updating? Was it 9.3.3 or and earlier version?

You might try the following. Under Settings > General > Profile, remove any profile. That might be causing the odd VPN behavior. Try comparing the WiFi settings for one network between a device that works and the iPad.

Thank you Diana, there was a profile there and when deleted, it started to work. Sorry, but I don't know the previous version. You are a goddess!

Great! Old version doesn't matter, of course. The question is why did you have the profile? Was it added to support a game? Business users have profiles to access their company servers, and developers use them to access internal configuration. They're also used to configure the Apple VPN implementation. But they cannot pop up without your authorization.

I have exactly the same issues as Alttrica with an iPad2 - although I can get mail and use safarai, BBC news app. I can't access iTunes or the app store (so Apple can't sell me anything!!!) via Wi-Fi (can if I plug it into the computer). Since the update the battery life is also shocking from 100% to 10% in 8 hours yesterday, mostly while on an unused. The router is fine, working with everything else.

I can see Settings>General but cannot then see Profile???

That may just mean you have no profile. And that suggestion was only aimed at the reported flipping VPN indicator. Your problem is different, since you are able to access the internet. What happens when you try to open the app store?

And running the battery down in 8 hours on time is not so unusual; you should sleep it when not in use.

OK. If I open the app store I can see that an app needs updating. I click the update 'button', the circle appears, it looks as if it is going and then almost immediately stops and reverts back to the update. Tried it several times with no luck.

Reset my iPad - (reset all setting). It is now seems to has a faster wi-fi  connection = .2GB more available space!

Tried to app again, same as before.

Tried to download another film/movie. Exactly the same as before, it looks as if it is downloading but then stops. Also if you click Edit there, no circle appears next to the film meaning you can't delete it. If you press download 9bottom right hand side of screen) the pages 'refreshes' tot he iTunes music store. Click movies and then it return to trying to download the film, as if nothing has previously downloaded.

Prior to the last update  I uploaded and downloaded films easily.

Battery life - you are correct. I  had not gone into sleep mode which is how I usually leave it :-).

OK, so you're having trouble with iTunes. There are some other threads here on that specific topic. I don't remember the details, but one suggestion is to sign out, under Settings > iTunes & App Store, then sign back in. You should also restart before doing that. Hold Sleep and Home buttons until the Apple appears. Updates do a soft restart, but this power off restart seems to clean things up better.

Really appreciate your answer. However, it does 'speak' with iTunes. I can even buy items and redeem Gift Vouchers. It even downloads but then gets stuck. Another website suggests it is an Apple issue, they have got some sort of coding wrong so it can't finalise the download? I can also see purchases bought via the iPad on my Apple TV and computer!! And download the purchase made via the iPad.

OK. Have you tried my suggestions: restart, then logout and back in?

Yes - twice. And I have also done a restart from which I got to via Settings. The one where you lose the settings but retain all 'data/info'.
