Q: trouble logging on?

My son is at college and is connected to the wireless network, however, he is unable to use his apple tv. States that "we had trouble logging you in" though his laptop works just fine. What am I missing to help him out?

- Thanks Kenna

Hi. Is he on a WiFi network where you login through a browser? ATV cannot do that. It can only connect to a network anonymously using the WiFi password. He would need permission from the net admins to connect directly. They migh not support that because streaming will load the network, and it's not part of the educational mission.

Now, he can just turn ATV on and use peer-to-peer AirPlay from another Apple device. To do that, turn on  Bluetooth on the iPhone or iPad, then the ATV should appear in the AirPlay menu. Your device will be connected to the network and can download the streams and forward them to ATV. This may work with a Mac as well. Note thr requirements for peer-to-peer here How to use AirPlay on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.
