Q: Safari won't open youtube

Hello

I can't get youtube to open in safari anymore. It started about 5 days ago and safari says it is unable to connect to the server. I can load youtube in chrome just fine. If I disconnect and reconnect to the wifi safari will load youtube for a few minutes. If I start playing a video during the few minutes after reconnecting to the wifi the video will play in its entirety however the comments will stop loading and if the page is refreshed then safari says it cant connect to the server. I have found no other website that will not load. Any suggestions on fixing this would be extremely appreciated. Thank you.

It is against the eula to discuss the the beta OS here.

In El Capitan you could try force quitting Safari then start Safari again while pressing and holding the shift key. This will load Safari without any extensions.

Ok I removed the part about the OS. It is irrelevant considering it started in El Capitan and I'm discussing a problem with safari not the operating system. I disabled all extensions and nothing changed.

Are you troubleshooting while running the beta OS or El Capitan? Removing reference to the beta OS without removing the beta OS will not help you troubleshoot in El Capitan. Safari is part of the OS and we non-beta users have no idea what changed in the beta OS and Safari.

The problem is in El Capitan. Forget beta, I loaded my backup and am back to 10.11.6 which is where I first noticed the issue in the first place. I only mentioned it in case it made a difference since the problem still existed and as a developer myself I find it extremely helpful to have all the available information including if it is happening in other versions of the software.

I tried all of the stuff listed in the links and sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder allows youtube to load for several minutes however it will eventually tell me that safari cant connect to the youtube server.

    Try a restart.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

I created a second administrator account and safari played youtube for almost an hour before failing to connect. I tried safe mode and safari was able to load youtube for almost an hour as well before failing. I installed Firefox and Maxthon browsers and they won't load youtube at all for any amount of time. Opera and Chrome have no problem loading youtube and haven't failed so far.

I believe I have solved the problem. There is a raspberry pi running "pi hole" that is connected my roommates router. It's not my network so I wasn't aware that it was filtering my internet. My airport time capsule is connected to my roommates router and the raspberry pi is connected to his router. I removed the raspberry pi and now safari and firefox are working. Thank you for trying to help.
