iCloud

Q: iCloud: Update to the same version?

Hi there!

Apple Software Update gives me the oppertunity to update iCloud for Windows to the same version:

This happens for a quite while. I think a year or so. How can I fix this?

    Hello AndyH_2807,

     

    Thanks for your post! I see for some reason the update you’re being offered is the same version that is installed now. I can see that can be troubling. I’ll be happy to help. 

     

    What I would recommend is making sure all your other software is up to date. Also you can try uninstalling the iCloud Control Panel and then reinstall it by downloading it here:

    Download iCloud for Windows - Apple Support

     

    That should reset things. It will remove your iCloud files from your computer temporarily, but will download it all again after reinstalling it.

    thanks for your answer. Unfortunately that did not help.

     

    I have downloaded the version you said and I have uninstalled iCloud from my desktop. After reinstalling iCloud and restarting the computer I have the same problem as before. Apple Software Update (ASU) finds the same version to update I have installed.

     

    This did not happens for iTunes. This program is up to date and ASU brings me not the same version to update. In my opinion there are some files that won't be deleted by the installation tool. And this files have a fewer version number, so ASU gives me the opportunity to update to a version I still have.

     

    Have you any information about a tool, that will be delete all files installed by the installation tool of iCloud? Something like a "Microsoft fix-it"? ;-)

    Hey AndyH_2807, 

     

    It sounds like the issue here might be with the Apple Software Updater itself. Lets try repairing the installation for that.

     

    If you have Windows 10, then the instructions are as follows:

     

    1. In Search, enter Control Panel and select Control Panel.
    2. Select Programs > Programs and Features, and then select the program.
    3. To fix the program, select Repair or, it that’s not available, Change. 
    4. Follow the directions on the screen. 

    Microsoft Windows 10: Repair or remove programs

     

    The next step would be to restart your computer. After you've restarted, see if the Apple Software Updater is doing the same thing.

    Hi chris_g1,

     

    thanks for your reply. I've tried to solve the problem with your suggestion, but I made a mistake. Instead of repairing the ASU I have deleted it. So I have to reinstall iTunes to get the ASU. But the failure is not solved. After starting the ASU it shows me iCloud 5.2.1 as a new version for what I have installed. But iCloud is still on Version 5.2.1.

     

    I think I have to live with this "bug". So thank you all for your help.
