Q: Set up URL on Desktop with site icon

How do you create a desktop icon that is a "shortcut" to a web site URL.  When I try dragging it from the Safari address bar I get the web block but not the unique icon for the site.

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

If you can copy the icon for the site, you can do a Get Info (command - I) and paste the icon in.

You will get the link, but not a custom icon (Favicon)  dragging the link.

The Favicon can be found if you drop down the code

    Firefox—command U

    Safari—option command U

the path to the favicon will be in the <head>, similar to this:  <link rel="icon" href="favicon.ico?v=2"/>

typically it should be a hotlink taking you directly to it, from there dragging to your desktop  right clicking the image to "save to desktop" and following the directions above by Eric Root.

The favicon is typically 16 x 16 pixels—so it will be pixelated when it enlarges to link size like you are looking for.
