Q: iTunes dropout

Hello, I'm noticing lots of dropouts when playing music in iTunes v12.4.3.1 on iMac 2009 OS 10.11.5. I already unchecked the Preferences/Advanced/Share iTunes Library XML box. I'm considering buying an Airplay speaker, but what's the point when there are music dropouts? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

By dropout do you mean the playback stops, or it keeps playing but no sound, like its been muted?? How are you currently listening. Are you using any headphones or speakers or the built in speakers on the iMac?

By dropout I mean the iTunes playback pauses or stops mid song using my HK soundstick 2 speakers. I also have audio problems with movie verbal playback on app VLC but their forum states this is a known problem.

Are you streaming music or is it downloaded?? If streaming it could be slow internet problems that stops the song half way though, where the point in the song catches up with whats downloaded. If streaming have you tried having a song offline and seeing if it does the same??

If your not streaming, have you tried unplugging the speakers and seeing if you get the same behavior using the Macs inbuilt speakers?? Might be a problem with the speakers and it sending a command back to pause, like the iPhone Headphones do.

No I'm not streaming music. Most of my music is either on my iMac or an external Seagate drive connecting via USB 2. I disconnected the speakers to listen for dropouts and didn't hear any. That's a good idea. I'll test this more to isolate the problem. My HK II connections could use a cleaning. Suggestions? I'm thinking unplugging and using rubbing alcohol. They still have decent sound especially sitting on isolation feet.

So I'm still having the playback dropout problem when listening only to the iMac speakers. So that rules out the HK SS2 speakers right? How to test music HD activity?
