It looks like your MacBook Pro on OS X 10.10.5 is having some issues with the Message app input field. I'd need more than one line myself when I'm messaging someone so let's get that space to work correctly. Test your app after you've tried each step.
OS X Yosemite: Quit apps -- Please quit the Messages app, then hold the left Shift key down while you click to relaunch the Messages app.OS X Yosemite: Start up in safe mode --This allows the Mac to perform certain checks on the system.
How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac -- Follow those directions and activate Messages to see if that field is working as it should.

Aug 12, 2016 8:45 AM in response to Washitby Eric Root,Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem or a suggestion for improvement. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem/suggested change solved sooner.
