Aug 12, 2016 10:28 PM in response to H AND Jby turingtest2,★HelpfulNo. You need a MFi controller. Other controllers won't interact with Apple TV. There is no facility to add drivers to Apple TV. Take a look at https://afterpad.com/mficontrollers/.

Yeah, I've looked @ the link you provide, thx
Already have five (5) device(s) linked to AppleTV;
iPhone/iPad/ZaggKeys Folio & two (2) "learned" remote(s): TV/Blu-Ray.
If AppleTV/tvOS can connect/learn these device(s), why NOT "learn" a game controller?
Does there need to be a device driver/software protocol for AppleTV/tvOS to learning a game controller?
Thank you for your time, James

From doing a little research on the discussion/subject/topic, it is a matter of XInput API being an available framework in/on iOS/tvOS.
What API is being used to recognize my Bluetooth keyboard, TV/Blu-Ray remote(s)?
What input/output API/framework is being used by MFi-certified game controller(s)?
Is it just a matter of Apple not willing to incorporate XInput into iOS/tvOS?
Or is there some other reason for not supporting XInput?
The only reasonable explanation is that Apple does not want pay a fee to Microsoft.
Too bad, there are a lot of nice/sweet game controllers out there that can't be used, krazy nutz!
Thank you for your time, James

I could be all "wet" in regards to the non-support of XInput in/on iOS/tvOS?
I will provide feedback to Apple on this subjec/topic/question.
