Q: Error moving  imovie 11 project to external hd

I am trying to free hd space by attaching a mac formatted external hd and moving imovie projects from inside the imovie project view holding down the cmd key. But since the project contains clips with built in audio effects, titles etc that is part of iMovie itself (at least I believe that is the reason) it gives an error -43 message saying it could not move the jingle or thumbnail. It then shows the project as if it is moved, but restarting imovie it is back at its original location again. Greatful for any insight you could share..

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Sounds as if you are doing it correctly, but just to be sure here is a link to instructions by AppleMan 1958.

How can i move or copy projects and events to an external drive? (Version 9 and earlier)

Note his comment about an error

For existing projects, you should move using these instructions.

    http://help.apple.com/imovie/#move7d66613

There is an error in the instructions where it says to drag the project icon to the icon in the Event Library. You should instead look for your hard drive icon in the Project Library.

Generally the Event takes up more hd space than the Project so you may want to consider moving the Events as well.

Thanks a lot for taking interest in my problem, but I was aware of the error in the instruction page and have followed the correct procedure, doing the drag-n-drop in the project viewer and not event viewer, I believe I do everything according to the instruction, but still it gives this issue of reporting error -43 when the project moved has embedded built-in effects like inter titles or music. Strange that I am the only one experiencing this - it could be that the problem is that the ´move´ operation inadvertently implies deleting the original source, which it cannot do since the material there is protected as it is part of iMovie or something?  But there must be some workaround?

Have you tried the Copy function rather than the Move?

Not sure it will make any difference, but worth a try.

If it does work you can then delete the original project.

Does this happen for all projects that you are moving or just a particular one?
