Q: Could Not Activate iPhone

Hey folks.

I'm trying to get my old phone (5C 16GB Green - UK Vodofone) set up and ready to sell but I can not get it to activate. It will not activate over mobile with either old or new SIM card installed and will not activate via iTunes either. If I try to connect to wifi it simply does not find any wifi network at all (there are 7 within range).

I know with 100% certainty it has never been jailbroken or locked in any way shape or form. I can get IMEI and ICCI up via the 'i' icon in the bottom left but beyond that I have no clue as to what could be wrong.

Any help at all will be a marked improvement on my current status.

Thanks in advance,

Suze

iPhone 5c, iOS 9.2, I only THINK it's 9.2.

Why are you needing to activate the phone if you're going to sell it?

you just wipe the phone as new.  What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Tried that at first, wouldn't activate so tried retoring, still nothing and nothing has changed. The PAYG sim had expired at the time, the phone was out of use from around January this year and refound during a clear out of stuff (I have another 5C from EE which has wiped fine with no issues at all I should add.)

If you were still not able to activate the phone using another sim card that is active and compatible then there may be another issue here.

You've stated that you have tried a restore, I'm not sure how it was completed but I would suggest to try restoring again via iTunes or trying to activate via iTunes.

If this still does not resolve your issue, I would suggest to contact Apple Directly.

Well is the 5C still active with EE?

But I don't understand why you need to activate a phone that your going to give away or sell, you need to wipe it.

A lot of people like to restore completely and then set up as new so that potential buyers can navigate through the phone. But honestly, if the phone has been restored as new and the activation lock has been removed, the device is ready to be sold as you stated.

Hopefully this will also help with the OP issue:

This is exactly what I was trying to do. I have since found that I hadn't removed it from my icloud devices but it doesnt seem to have made any difference.
