Q: Get iTunes to recognize my iPhone 6 again on Windows 10.
I've been using iExplorer to backup my iPhone 6. When I was cleaning up some files through WIndows 10 Control Panel I deleted iTunes off of my PC because I never use it. (I did not delete any file or program that didn't have a name I recognized as an application I installed, but no longer use. If I had any doubts, I didn't hit delete.)
After I deleted iTunes I found iExplorer wouldn't see my phone. It turns out iExplorer uses iTunes. So I downloaded and reinstalled the 64 bit version of iTunes for Windows 10. (iExplore says if your phone is not recognized, make sure it's recognized in iTunes first. So I've been concentrating on accomplishing that.)
I made sure iTune is updated. I updated the iOS on my iPhone 6. I made sure Windows 10 is updated. When I plug my iPhone into my PC using a USB cable, the computer asks me if I trust the PC and I let it access my iPhone. So I know the phone is recognized through the cable by the PC. But when I go to iTunes and pull down the FILE menu and select DEVICES, everything is grayed out. I've tried upgrading, rebooting, rebooting and connecting in different orders, using different USB cables, using different USB ports on my HP Envy PC. iTunes won't see my iPhone like it used to when I first bought my Windows 10 PC.
Today someone suggested I try another PC. So at work I downloaded iTunes onto my Windows 7 PC. Once it was installed I plugged in my iPhone using a USB cable. iTunes recognized my phone without a problem.
So I came home and uninstalled iTune. Then I downloaded a new copy and reinstalled it. It still won't recognize my phone.
What am I missing?
iTunes, Windows 10, iPhone 6

Did you just use Control Panel to remove iTunes? If so, you did not completely remove it. See this support document for instructions on how to remove and reinstall iTunes correctly. Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows 7 and later - Apple Support
If that is not enough, then see this support document for further troubleshooting steps to get iTunes to recognize your device. If iTunes doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support
