Q: are these duplicates?  Can I trash them?

When I look at All My Files I see many dups of photos.  Some are originals and some are cropped.  Can I delete the originals to save space and the cropped ones will be safe?

Thank you

    Under No Circumstances

Please, for your own sake, ignore this "All My Files" heading. It's very dangerous. There are many reasons why you might have what appear to be Duplicates files on your Mac, and doing anything via this heading can destroy libraries, can cause major dataloss if you do not know what you are doing.

In the case of iPhoto there are no duplicate files, though they are what appear to be so. There multiple versions - originals, previews, thumbnail and so on. All are necessary.

Again, I cannot stress enough, never delete anything via that 'All My Files' "feature"

No you can not - that will destroy your iPHoto library

THose are not duplicates and are critical to the operation of iPhoto - see The Curse of All Files and All Images and False Duplicates

Basic answer is to stay away form All file and NEVER delete anything form the iPhoto library except using the iPhoto application
