Q: don't know passcode

I am setting up a new iPhone and don't know the passcode. I know my iCloud password, but not the passcode. I haven't entered it in wrong 6 times yet so my device isn't disabled but there's no content I can find on here for how to recover the passcode - just instructions for after your device is already disabled.

Perhaps we are talking about a different passcode. New iPhones do not come with passcode out-of-the-box. It sounds like you are describing some sort of passcode associated with iCloud, on top of your iCloud password. Do you mean that you are being prompted for a four or six digit code? If so, are you sure you are not being prompted to create a new passcode of your choosing (unrelated to iCloud)? If this does have something to do with iCloud, you may have two-step verification or two-factor authentication enabled on your device, respectively. In this case, you need to approve the sign in from a different device.

    If this is a new iPhone then how does it already have a passcode? Did you mean you bought it used? There is no way to recover the passcode, that would defeat the security purposes of having the passcode. You will need to follow the procedure as if it were disabled.

    It's a new iPhone and I'm trying to sign into an established iCloud that I use with my Mac and iPad. The password is correct, but I have no idea what the passcode is and don't remember setting that up with iCloud when I did that on my iMac.

    Yes, it's just when trying to set my new device up to iCloud which has already been set up on my iMac. After I enter in my iCloud login and password, it verifies it and then asks me for my Passcode. I've tried the verification code from the two step verification from my other device and it did not accept it. I've tried every password known to me and none accept (nor is it giving the option to set a new one).

     

    The odd thing is that my iMac and iPad are both showing as connected to iCloud but I didn't need to set a passcode for them to connect.

     

    Going through appleid.apple.com it will only allow me to change myiCloud password, not the passcode. And in there it actually shows this new iphone as signed in, but without entering the proper Passcode on the iPhone itself it won't connect the iCloud storage to my new device - even though all my other devices are happily connected to it.
