Q: Macbook logs me out after minimising iTunes while mini player is open.

Hi, All.

I've been having some issues with iTunes on my late 2011 macbook pro.

While the iTunes miniplayer is open, minimising the iTunes window logs the user out.

I'm confused as to why. This means I need the full iTunes window open while the miniplayer is open, which defeats the purpose. Any ideas on how to resolve this issue? I have the Sierra public beta, and it doesn't experience this issue, but El Capitan does.

Thanks in advance

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

    Greetings Sharkey101,

Thanks for your post. As I understand it, your Mac logs out of the user account when you minimize iTunes. That certainly is not what should happen. I’ll be happy to help.

First, since the computer has gone between El Capitan and the Sierra beta, let's make sure El Capitan is up to date with Mac OS X 10.11.6: Update the software on your Mac - Apple Support

Next, if you can go to our iTunes download site and try reinstalling iTunes to see if this help. You can find the download page here: iTunes - Download iTunes Now - App

After that, I’d recommend testing this out in a new user account to see if it’s a system wide issue or something wrong with your user account. You can find the instructions for that here: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac - Apple Support

    Take care!

    Hi, chris_g1.

Sorry for the late reply, but I haven't had time to complete your suggestions until now.

I updated iTunes, but there were no El Capitan updates, so I'm assuming I'm up-to-date.

Sorry for the confusion, but it was not logging me out after minimising iTunes, but after minimising iTunes while the miniplayer was open.

    Any more suggestions?

Thanks for your help so far.

Thank you for trying those suggestions and using the Apple Support Community. Due to the nature of your issue you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources found here:

Okay, I talked to apple support. They talked me through the steps to fix the issue, thus, for anyone else who may encounter the issue, here is the fix:

    1. Turn the mac off, hold SHIFT during startup to enter safe boot.
    2. Open iTunes and the miniplayer. Minimise iTunes. The issue will not occur.
    3. Reboot into 'regular' OS X.
    4. Issue resolved!

Thanks to everyone to their help. Very happy I can use the miniplayer again!
