Q: Macbook pro won't turn on after the loading process. How can I erase my info?

I have an old Macbook Pro from 2010 which whenever I try to turn it on, it won't. It loads completely but it shuts down as it finishes the loading process, and I want to erase all of my info in there. What should I do?

MacBook Pro, from 2010 Portugal

Install Yosemite or El Capitan from Scratch

         Backup if possible before continuing.

    1. Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the Command and R keys until the Apple logo appears. When the Utility Menu appears:
    2. Select Disk Utility from the Utility Menu and click on Continue button.
    3. When Disk Utility loads select the volume (indented entry, usually Macintosh HD) from the Device list.
    4. Click on the Erase icon in Disk Utility's main window. A panel will drop down.
    5. Set the Format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
    6. Click on the Apply button, then wait for the Done button to activate and click on it.
    7. Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.
    8. Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.

It actually didnt work for some reason. It said that it couldnt repair the disk or erase it because of an error on the disk. The icon of the drive didnt actually appear with a full solid color, it was kind of semi-transparent. I've also notes that in the info below said that the disk is not mounted.

The odds are that the HDD has failed.

    Ciao.
