Q: Will These Supedrives Work With the Late iMac 2009? (Running 10.11.6)

Hi. Will any of these Superdrives work with the late 2009 iMac (which came with the default Hitachi GA11NR model Superdrive):

If they both will work with this iMac, which Superdrive is better?

Thank you. God bless. Rev. 21:4

I suggest you do not use a SuperDrive pulled from a PowerBook. I doubt it will work, because the PowerBook architecture and the drivers it used are very different than the Intel iMac.

Given its manufacture date the one offered for sale on the "tipidPC" website is more likely to work, but its photographs do not show enough detail to be certain.

If in doubt, search for one that meets the following specifications:

That particular drive may not be available for sale in your location, but it it will work.

Instead of replacing a super thin vertically installed drive where the media can shift by 1/1000th of an inch and cause problems, why not consider any third party external burner which should be fine as long as its specs include Mac OS X.
