Q: Is there a work around for google cloud print to a printer that is not Google Cloud ready?

MacBook Pro, 2013. El Capitan, latest OS X. Safari Browser.

 

This is not really an Apple problem, but I don’t want to download Chrome, which is what Google says I have to do to print to a Canon MX 882 that is not Google Cloud ready. I have updated the printer drivers; it is not going to be compatible. I hope an Apple user who does not want Google Chrome has encountered and worked around this problem.

    Google Chrome is a scary thing. I can imagine you don't want to download it.

     

    It is by far the easiest way to use Google cloud printing though...however, it's not the only way as I understand it. Since the printing system in OS X is in fact CUPS, you can use Googles CUPS connector (https://github.com/google/cloud-print-connector). The only problem is that you have to compile and install it yourself. I don't know how technical skilled you are, but I would take the Chrome route if I were you.
