Q: MacBook delete but not edit network drive files

I have a Linksys ea8500 router that has a Seagate NTFS formatted usb hard drive connected for network use.  With my MacBook Air (my OS is fully up to date), I can delete files from the drive, but I cannot edit files.  Why would I be allowed to delete but not edit?

MACBOOK AIR (11-INCH, EARLY 2015), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

    Hi FamosVA,

I understand you have some questions about your abilities to use an NTFS hard drive. I know it's important to have the right access to your files, so I'm happy to provide some clarification.

Check out what the last section of this article has to say about the subject:

How to transfer data from a PC to a Mac - Apple Support

Mac OS X v10.3 or later can read the contents of an NTFS-formatted drive, but will be unable to save any new files or make changes to existing files without first reformatting the drive (and deleting any existing data on the drive in the process).

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities, cheers!
