Q: iPad mini 2 3G connectivity
HI all, having a bit of trouble with an iPad mini 2 4g. I have a lot to say, so I am sorry to be blunt but will hit you with bullet points.
as much as I truly do appreciate any help, I will give you a little of my background to eliminate stuff I have tried.
so me, pretty tech savvy, and pretty good with Apple touch equipment. I buy and sell iPhones for fun and repair them (screens and dodgy components etc) don't got to deep but not scared. Mechanic by trade, electrically biased and pretty good at what I do.
current equipment
iphone 6 on o2 contract
ipad pro 12.9 on Vodafone contract
ipad mini 2 no sim as such, but taken the Vodafone contract sim
so the issue........
removed the stereo from my car completely and fitted iPad mini 2 into the dash with Vodafone contract sim
as you can imagine the possibilities are endless, along with tracking my beloved sports car.
now my problem is losing the 3G/4g and ending up with NO SIGNAL.
i Have no issue with this as I am obviously going to drive through bad signal areas, my problem is it will not recover, if I toggle airplane mode it may recover say 10% of the time but generally the only way is to reboot.
the problem is also intermittent. I have driven around all evening with no issues, then other times its a nightmare.
To eliminate this I have tried with a payg Vodafone sim (after being on my second contract sim) tried every apn known to man, reset network settings, restored iPad, fitted every suppressor imagineable to the car, am starting to get out of options.
as an amateur iPhone repairer, I have many sims available on all networks for test purposes. I am yet to explore this, on the other hand it's a little pointless as I am stuck in this contract for a further 18 months but I may try it.
and I know I have many solutions available, yes I can connect it to my phone, yes I can get a standalone personal hotspot, but this issue is driving me mental, and I do like things to work as they should.
forgot to point out the mini 2 was second hand so no warranty etc. I do have a Genius Bar appt on Thursday but am anticipating it to be a waste of time, as I bet it will work when checked!!! Also as far as connecting to car, it's effectively placed in a case albeit custom made by me from fibreglass, has a permanent headphone jack plugged in and permanent charge when ignition is on.
however this is the exact same connection I ran my phone from before I came up with the permanent idea of fitting the iPad to the car.
sorry to rattle on so much, truly frustrated.
ONe more thing, on latest software of course.
thanks
Phil
