Aug 15, 2016 10:10 AM in response to maggieMWPby Edgar,Please don't read the article linked in the post from Carolyn. It is completely outdated information that refers to an older GarageBand 2 version (ca 2013) and an even older version of Logic 7 (from 12 years ago). In addition, the information won't help you much if you are a casual user, you don't even have to know about the underlying file structure (unless you are interested).
I guess your original question was just how to import Loops into your GarageBand app ( I assume version 10). There are two steps:
Step 1
First, search in the GarageBand manual (It is build in under the Main Menu). Most of the time, the answer is right there.
Step 2
If you can't find the answer, the procedure doesn't work as described, or you end up with error messages, then you can ask around on the forum. So, let's assume you did Step 1 already, try the following answer:
Adding new Loops to GarageBand is as simple as dragging the file(s) from the Finder (the open window with the audio files) directly over the Loop Browser in GarageBand. A green plus sign should appear while dragging over that area
There are two scenarios depending on if you drag individual files or a folder over.
Dragging File(s):
If you a drag a single file or multiple files over, then those files will be copied to a dedicated Loops Folder on the user directory of your drive
Draggin Folder:
If you drag a folder that contains all the new Loops you want to import, then GarageBand will popup a Dialog window, giving you two options:
- Move to Loops Folder: The folder with all the loops will be moved (not copied) to the dedicated folder on your user directory.
- Current Location: The folder with the loops stays at its original location and GarageBand will "reference" the files (it remembers where they are). Of course, if you move the files, then you end up with broken links.
Please note that this is the short answer. There is a little bit more to Loops, Loop files management, meta data, etc.) if you want to dive in further.
Hope that helps
