Q: Apple TV Airplay Mirroring Fails w/iPhone 6+

Using Apple TV 4 (software up to date) and iPhone 6+ (current iOS) Airplay works slowly or not at all.

Selected visual content lags (audio ok), with Vimeo content only first frame of video is visible -no motion. Content viewed on iPhone only (no Apple TV) is flawless.

I have a very fast (comcast) cable connection. Recently installed new comcast modem. I primarily stream content from Watch TCM (the only option for this source) and assumed the problem was with the TCM app. But Vimeo is now inoperable via Apple TV. As stated above, there is no problem viewing streaming content on iPhone itself (not mirrored to Apple TV) Content selected via Apple TV remote operates normally (not mirrored from iPhone). No problems viewing content directly through comcast cable stations. So by elimination, I am guessing the problem is between iPhone & Apple TV.

This problem is fairly recent as operation was mostly better when Apple TV first installed. Problem PRECEDED installation of new Comcast Modem.

I checked the Wifi settings, and all appears to match on all devices. I can't think of any other options to check, but I'm not a tech. Solution options appreciated!

Apple TV, iOS 9.2, Apple TV Gen 4 32Gb

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.

    1. Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
    2. Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
    3. Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
    4. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    5. Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    6. Restart your mobile device or computer.

If you are still having problems, try using 802.11n for wifi if you are currently using either 802.11b or 802.11g.

If your problem is AirPlaying from a computer, try disabling bluetooth

I've experienced a similar problem with Basic AirPlay (not mirroring) where the video sometimes, but not always, won't start. The progress bar on the TV and my iPad shows that download is occurring, but the video refuses to play. When that happens, I can usually fix it by briefly turning AirPlay off and back on on the iPad. You might try that. This began for me with the release of tvOS 9.2 in March 2016. It was perfect until then.
