Q: touch id fails after iOS update

Immediately after installing the iOS update to 9.3.4 on an iphone 6s, my touch id stopped working.

I deleted the existing fingerprint files (since they weren't working - I thought this might be a security feature, like having to use a passcode after a re-start).  However, if i choose "iphone unlock", "apple pay" or "itunes & app store under Use Touch ID for:, or try to add a fingerprint, the scan window flashes up for a half-second, then I get a "Failed" message.

Anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas how to get it working again?

thanks!

    Hello parsnipper,

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

I see that after updating to iOS 9.3.4, your Touch ID has stopped working. I can imagine that it's concerning to have an issue with something that worked with your previous iOS version. I want to help you get Touch ID working again.

What I recommend first, is to force close all apps on your iPhone. We want to make sure that there isn't anything conflicting with you setting up Touch ID. When you double-click the Home button, your recently used apps appear. Use Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, specifically, this section:

Here’s how to force an app to close.

    View your open apps

Double-click the Home button to see your most recently used apps.

    Find the app to close

Swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close.

    Swipe up to close

Swipe up on the app's preview to close the app.

Once you've done that, please use the following resource to give your iPhone a fresh restart, and then test again to see if you are able to add a new fingerprint and set up Touch ID:

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

    Best Regards.
