Q: iMessage issues on Mac Mini, iPad and iPhone

So, here's a nice one.

Mac Mini, iPad Mini, iPhone5. All are on newest OS versions. Logged in to identical iCloud services and iTunes on all three devices. The iPhone 5 is US issued, the others are EU (NL) issued.

When I send out an iMessage on the phone, the sent message does not carry over to the Mac Mini or the iPad Mini. iMessages sent from either iPad or Mac show up on both devices, but not on the phone.

Incoming messages only show up on the phone, not on both other devices.

People who receive my messages from either the Mac Mini - iPad combo and from the iPhone5, have two separate conversations in their messages, but only one entry of me in their contact list.

In iCloud online, all devices can be seen as logged in with the same account. All were logged out of iCloud, password was changed and logged back in. All devices were rebooted. All to no avail.

Other services like Calendar work without any issues at all, an appointment made on either which devices instantly carries over to both other devices. New contacts are shared amongst all devices too. So the issue is restricted to iMessage.

In short, I'm suspecting there is a difference between the EU devices and the US device, that prevents them from being treated equally. Anyone else have this issue, or something similar?

    Hello mackert,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. I know having Messages not working properly or sync across your devices is not what you expect. Based on what you stated, it seems you may be experiencing some syncing issues with devices signed into your Apple ID for Messages. Good news is I have had this issue myself and I resolved this issue using these steps:

    1. First, sign out of your Apple ID for iMessage on all your devices. On your iOS devices, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and sign out of your Apple ID. Then go to Settings > Messages and turn off iMessage.

    2. On your Mac Mini, open the Messages app, then go to Messages menu > Preferences > Accounts. Click on your iMessage account in the left sidebar, then click Sign Out, then Sign Out again.

    3. Restart your devices as the shut down and start up process is important to keep the software running properly:

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

How to turn on or turn off your Mac

    4. Now, sign back into iMessage on your iPhone first. Go to Settings > Messages, turn on iMessage and sign into your Apple ID in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Make sure you're successfully signed in, iMessage is activated, and you see your phone number and email available for both “You can be reached by iMessage at” and “Start new conversations from.” This is because iMessage uses your iPhone’s SMS to activate iMessage on your Apple ID.

If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime

    5. Once your iPhone has setup iMessage, then sign back into your other accounts and test the syncing of Messages. You also may want to turn on "Text Message Forwarding" under Settings > Messages on your iPhone to further make sure all your devices have the same messages.

Use Messages with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Messages (El Capitan): Set up Messages

Use Continuity to connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac

    Cheers!
