Q: I can only see a blacl screen with blinking cursor in Windows 10 Boot Camp

Why is Boot Camp so difficult!?

I just reinstalled Boot Camp for the second time on my mid 2012 MacBook Pro after I ran into this issue the first time. Everything goes through smoothly until the drivers install and I restart my Mac after the updates, only to have the screen go black.

Why can't i just have a clean installation *sigh*

Anyway, I've contacted both Apple and Microsoft support but they couldn't resolve my issue. I know that other people seem to have this issue, but I haven't seen a consistent fix for it.

Any suggestions would be awesome!

If the screen is light black, try disconnecting your power adapter and check if the screen allows you to login. The default brightness may be too low. There are two separate settings, on battery and on power adapter.

If the issue is related to drivers, remove the current installation and re-install W10. On the first screen where you select the Bootcamp partition, physically disconnect from any network connections, and do not connect till Windows is fully installed, you have created an account and bootcamp drivers are fully installed. Once you test, create a Windows System Restore point, and disable GPU driver updates.
