Q: Itunes does not recognize iphone 6s when connected by USB

Ever since I switched from my old 5s to my new 6s, my itunes on my MacBook will not recognize my 6s when I connect via USB.  I have tried the following:

-Updating my itunes (it is current)

-Updating my iphone software (it is current)

-Updating my MacBook software (it is current)

-Backing my phone up then resetting my 6s to factory settings then restoring via icloud (same issue occurs)

-Restarting my computer

-Restarting my phone by holding the home and lock button at the same time

The message that pops up reads, "The iPhone “Ty's iPhone” cannot be used because it requires a newer version of iTunes. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes."  However, my version is current.

Anyone ever have the same issue or know what else I can try?  It's aggravating not being able to sync my music and pictures.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

-Ty

Check your version of Mac OS and iTunes:

    1) Open the "Apple" menu, choose "About this Mac".  What does it say for "Version"?

    2) Open iTunes, click the iTunes menu, choose About iTunes, look for the version of iTunes (may slowly scroll by).

The latest version of Mac OS is 10.11.6

The latest version of iTunes for Mac is 12.4.3.1

Your MacBook may be too old to support a current Mac OS and therefore iTunes cannot be upgraded far enough to be compatible with an iPhone 6.

    Thanks for the reply.

Apparently, this may be the issue.  My Mac version is 10.7.5 and my iTunes is 12.2.2.25.  My Macbook is only about 4 and a half years old, would that still be too old and causing this to happen?  I'm pretty sure I have friends who have the same phone and older Macbooks that are compatible.  If this is indeed the issue, is there any way around it or am I SOL?

    Thanks again!!

If your Mac is that age with 10.7.5 you likely can upgrade.  Go to "Apple" menu > "About This Mac" and post the information that is listed there.  In particular, the full lines that state the Mac's model and processor.  Someone can then tell you what the highest Mac OS that you can upgrade to.
