Q: mid 2011 mac mini dual ssd format

I've installed 2x 1.92TB OWC Mercury Electra 6G SSD's in my 2011 mac mini, but Disk Utility will not format the 2nd drive, even though it recognises it. I've swapped the position of the drives, but still get the same error for the same disk#. Anyone else have this issue? I cannot create a raid 0 from Internet Recovery either and since both drives will format when swapped, I can't figure out what is going on... Thanks Ken W.

    1. Have you tried formatted it/them from the Disk Utility in OS X Recovery..?

    2. Contact OWC Support, they are always more than willing to help people succeed with their products.

    Hi Den

    1. Yes, both in OS X Recovery and Internet Recovery. dev/disk1 always formats, dev/disk0 will not. Even after swapping drives and first formatted drive now shows unreadable partition

    2. Good suggestion. I'll do that.

    Cheers

    1. I know it means more practice work, but I would also try formatting it in a external USB enclosure or on a USB to SATA adapter.

    2. Your welcome! Please let us know how it goes.

Maybe you have a poor connection between the cable and logic board or the cable is damaged.

    Thanks lllaass

Turns out the original SATA connector has failed. Put both drives on both cables onto both MB connectors last night and everything works except the "upper" SATA cable that came with the original HDD. Must have damaged it when disconnecting first time. I'll order a new cable and should be good to go. Followed advice from OWC to arrive at outcome.

    Thanks everyone
