Q: How can I download and install the current version of Safari without installing current OS?

I just bought a refurbished 2013 MBP (MacBookPro) with OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) and would like to upgrade my Safari (v. 7.0.5) to the current Safari version. I've tried to download Safari from Apple's site, but it says I would also be installing the current OSX (10.11 El Capitan) as well. I want my MBP to remain on OSX 10.9 (because it's the last OS that supports Adobe Creative Suite CS6).

Can someone advise me on where I can download ONLY the latest Safari?

Thanks,

Steve

You cannot run the latest Safari on Mac OS 10.9.

It requires the latest Mac OS (10.11)

You could create a new partition and install the latest OS on it and use that.

Then boot from the Mavericks partition when you want to use Adobe Creative Suite.

Open the Mac App Store, click on the Updates tab, install the software, and repeat the process until it says that there aren't any available updates. The latest public version of Safari will run on Mac OS X 10.9.

Chris, this sounds like the way I need to go here. How do I go about creating a new partition? And are you saying that I can have two OS versions on my machine at the same time?!

Don't bother with upgrading the OS or repartitioning the drive. You don't need to do that to run the current version of Safari; Chris's post is incorrect.

If it matters, you can by using the Disk Utility to repartition the drive, but this may disable Boot Camp if you use it.

    Niel,

This would seem like a workable solution, but I did try that and that's where I came against the download and install of OS X 10.11. I don't want to do that as Apple doesn't allow for reto-install of Operating Systems. I can't afford to get stuck with OS X 10.11 — need to be absolutely sure that I keep with OS X 10.9 on my machine.

And according to Chris CA, the latest Safari will NOT work with OS X 10.9. Can you be absolutely sure of your understanding? You definitely know more than I do, but when there's conflicting advice, I need to err on the side of caution.

    Thanks for responding!

Yes, I am. Install all the Apple updates you're shown except for the one to El Capitan.

    Niel,

Thanks for clarifying and and backing up your advice. Okay, so the only thing I need to do here then is to go to the App Store/Updates and "update" everything except an OS X 10.10 and above if offered, right?

Here is a screenshot of my available updates. The OS update is 10.9.5 so that should be fine, but there's no update offered for Safari. Any advice from here?Screen Shot 2016-08-16 at 11.56.29 AM.png

Additional info:  I just noticed that the update to OS X 10.9.5 INCLUDES Safari 7.0.6. If that's the latest Safari that will work with Mavericks then it is what it is. If there's someway to download and install the latest Safari version beyond that (not sure what that is) then any advice or link would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Run the 10.9.5 update and then check for further updates. The current version of Safari for Mavericks is 9.1.2.

Try running the combo update. It installs all previous updates plus the new one, which can replace any files that may have become corrupted.

The 18 July 2016 Security Update 2016-002 includes Safari 9.1.2 for OS X 10.9.5. This will be available via the Updates tab on the OS X App Store once OS X 10.9.5 is installed. The same update installs Safari 9.1.2 on Yosemite 10.10.5.
