Q: DIMWIT ALERT! Anybody help with Mac Air set up?

Long story short..........Knocked a cup of coffee over my Mac Air. Didn't work for a few days. Kept shutting down. Claimed on my insurance and got a new one. However old one resumed and I have never had any trouble with it since.

Have always intended to give the old one to my son and use the new one but didn't get around to it.

I did set myself up as a user on it but refrained from working on it until I could find out how to transfer my WORD & EXCEL to my new one! (Never did that!)

Now after about 18 months I have started the new one up and cant get past the password at the log in page. When I choose the option to reset password using my Apple I.D it says i need to verify my internet connection ????

I don't know how to go any further????
